Boiler Upgrade Scheme now open

The Boiler Upgrade Scheme (BUS) has now launched.

To apply, you first will need to register with the scheme as an installer. You’ll need your MCS number, plus some other company information. You should note that only someone registered on Companies House can apply for the account, and they can then designate users to the account once it’s set up.

Ofgem are in the process of putting together an online portal for applications, but this isn’t ready yet. Therefore, for the first few months, you’ll need to submit applications for vouchers and voucher redemptions manually using the forms on this page.

Ofgem say they will be checking the MCS certificate for the installation to review eligibility and compliance for the Boiler Upgrade Scheme. Until 31st May, you can apply for both the voucher and redemption at the same time, for installations commissioned between 1st April and 22nd May. They expect payments will take up to 4 weeks to begin with.

Your customers will be contacted for consent once you’ve applied – this is done via email and they have 14 days to provide it. The responsibility for this rests on the installer, as this is an installer-led scheme, so do make sure you let your customers know to look out for it!

You can find installer guidance for the scheme here, and homeowner guidance to pass onto your customers here.

If you have any questions or concerns, you can contact your Consultant on 0161 768 5807, and we will help in any way we can.
